American tenor saxophonist and composer, Benny Golson, who turns 90 this year, is a true jazz legend.
He has played in the world famous bands of Benny Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Earl Bostic and Art Blakey.
Over the years, he has recorded over 30 albums and written over 300 compositions. He is the only living artist to have penned eight standards for the jazz repertoire: “Killer Joe”, “I Remember Clifford”, “Along Came Betty”, “Stablemates”, “Whisper Not”, “Blues March”, “Five Spot After Dark” and “Are you Real?”
Benny Golson, who played at the first YSJF in 2010 with the Antonio Ciacca Trio, is the Guest of Honour for YSJF 2019.
