Vocalist Youn Sun Nah is influenced in equal measure by French chansons, American jazz and the traditional music of her homeland, South Korea, and applies her distinctive, crystal-clear singing voice to exploring jazz and world music.
Youn Sun Nah grew up in a musical family in Seoul and made her musical debut as a singer at the age of 23 in a concert with the Korean Symphony Orchestra. She moved to Paris in 1995 to study jazz and quickly established a growing reputation on the French jazz scene. Since 2000 she has become a star on the world stage, touring extensively and releasing nine albums; the latest is She Moves On (2017).
She has performed in a duo with guitarist Ulf Wakenius since 2007 – they played at the first YSJF in 2010. The year after, she performed at the festival with Jan Lundgren and Peter Asplund. Youn Sun Nah makes a welcome return to YSJF in 2018, this time with her international quintet.
