Catherine Russell is an internationally acclaimed American vocalist with a repertoire of gems from the 1920s through to the present spanning African-American and American popular music, from the blues and R&B to the Great American Songbook, Broadway, Hollywood and Tin Pan Alley.
Allen Morrison, writing in Jazz Times, described her as “the foremost vocal interpreter of vintage jazz and R&B songs”.
She was an in-demand backing singer, performing and recording with artists such as Cyndi Lauper, Paul Simon and Steely Dan, and touring with David Bowie between 2002 and 2004, before embarking on a solo career in 2006 with her debut album “Cat”.
Catherine Russell was nominated for Best Jazz Vocal Album at the US Grammy awards earlier this year for “My Ideal” (2024), her ninth studio album.
