This duo concert, featuring two leading lights from Swedish jazz, illuminates the jazz of a century ago.
Ystad Abbey is a perfect setting for chamber jazz and pianist Claes Crona and trumpeter Peter Asplund have put together a setlist that features many pearls from the American and Swedish songbook. A key theme will be classic songs written in 1925, such as “Sweet Georgia Brown”, “Always”, “Dinah”, “Manhattan”, “Yes Sir That’s My Baby”, “I Want to Be Happy” and “I’m Sitting on Top of the World”. The duo also pay tribute to major jazz figures born one hundred years ago this year such as Leif “Smoke Rings” Andersson, Gunnar “Siljabloo” Nilsson, Mel Tormé, June Christy, Oscar Peterson and composer Johnny Mandel.
