The legendary Belgian harmonica player Toots Thielemans is credited with introducing the chromatic harmonica as a jazz instrument in the mid-1950s. He would have turned 100 this year. To celebrate this, one of Europe’s leading harmonica players, Filip Jers, presents a tribute concert inspired by the music of Toots Thielemans.

Filip Jers met Toots Thielemans several times during the Belgian virtuoso’s many tours of Sweden over the years and had the chance to talk and play with him. Toots Thielemans played at the first YSJF in 2010 and again in 2011.

Today’s concert setlist reflects a treasure trove of music from a career that spanned over 60 years and touches on his many collaborations with Swedish musicians and artists. There will be much-loved melodies such as Toots Thielemans’ most famous hit “Bluesette” (1961) – a jazz standard that has been recorded by over one hundred artists. He once said: “If there’s a piece of music that describes me, it’s that song.”
