Johanna Summer (DE) – piano
The award-winning, Berlin-based pianist Johanna Summer is a rising star in European jazz. Her first album “Schumann Kaleidoskop” (2020) evoked an enthusiastic response for its innovative spirit.
On the album, the classically-trained pianist takes music from Robert Schumann’s “Kinderszenen” (Scenes from Childhood) and “Album für die Jugend” (Album for the Young) as starting points for free improvisations. Downbeat magazine described it as “a unique debut, praiseworthy in its pursuit of merging genres.”
There was praise too from German piano icon, Joachim Kühn, who said: “Johanna Summer’s music is full of imagination and without categories. Coming from European classical music, with a wonderful touch, she has created something perfect and unique. Beautiful music from A-Z. A new star in piano heaven.”
This solo concert will be based on her debut album – with the potential for extemporary excursions, departing from classical pieces, original compositions and jazz standards.
