Mattias Nilsson – piano
For his solo concert, the Swedish pianist and composer Mattias Nilsson has put together a selection of songs to suit the exceptional ambience of St Mary’s, a church with a history stretching back to the 1200s.
“Playing in a church always induces a special feeling – the space itself becomes a part of the music, and the acoustics create a presence that is difficult to find anywhere else. It is something magical to let the music evolve in such a setting,” says Mattias Nilsson.
“My concert will present a dynamic mix of Swedish jazz, folk music and improvisation in which tradition meets spontaneity. There will also be my own compositions, influences from the music of Brazil and Argentina as well as tributes to some of Sweden’s jazz legends.”
