Saxophonist Nicole Johänntgen returns to YSJF to present her Robin project, a quintet driven by two percussionists that focuses on Cuban rhythms and musical flair to generate grooves that make you feel like dancing.
She has brought together a group of Swiss musicians who deliver upbeat, joyous jazz with a Cuban twist. The musical backgrounds of both pianist Manon Mullener and percussionist Roberto Hacaturyan have been coloured by living in Cuba for long periods.
This is a concert that promises rhythm, improvisation and boundless dynamism. Nicole studied in the USA under the legendary soprano saxophonist David Liebman, who said: “Nicole has something very special in her playing – a big and generous heart. An exceptional energy!”
