Zier Romme, a young rising star on the Danish jazz scene, was the first recipient of the Ystad Jazz Piano Award. The award, which is planned to be granted annually, was presented for the first time at the Ystad Sweden Jazz Festival in 2021 and consisted of SEK 25 000 and a concert date at this year’s jazz festival.
Zier Romme points to Oscar Peterson as his greatest inspiration. ”Stories” (2019), his debut album, is a fresh interpretation of the music of the 1960s and 70s, when jazz was swinging in trios and quartets. The Zier Romme Trio presented the album at a YSJF concert in 2019.
Today’s concert features a quintet comprising young Danish jazz talents and festival regular, Swedish drummer Cornelia Nilsson – a prize-winner concert and a winning formula for lovers of swing and bebop.
