Twenty years later Björn Yttling returned to jazz with Yyttling Jazz’s follow-up album “Illegal Hit” (2025).\nBetween jazz albums\, Björn Yttling became a major creative figure in the world of indie pop and a collaborator with an array of artists in the pop and rock world such as Chrissie Hynde\, Franz Ferdinand\, Primal Scream and Robyn.\nReviewing the new Yttling Jazz live\, Lira Magasin summed up the performance as: “Swinging\, groovy\, cool\, funky. He was mentored by Swedish jazz greats such as saxophonist Arne Domnerus and in turn has acted as mentor for many young talents\, helping to renew Swedish jazz. \nThe Malmö Academy of Music Chamber Choir is led by conductor Mats Paulson\, a senior lecturer in choral conducting at the Academy. The 25 members of the choir are all Academy students.

With roots in Bollnäs Folk High School\, the band interprets music from Coltrane’s rich repertoire in new exciting arrangements. Drawing inspiration from the Nordic jazz tradition\, they play  songs from classic albums such as “Blue Train” (1958)\, “Giant Steps” (1960) and “Coltrane’s Sound” (1964). John Coltrane wrote the jazz ballad “Naima” – named after his then-wife\, Juanita Naima Grubbs – in 1959. The song\, included on the album “Giant Steps”\, has become a jazz standard.

And this year is something special – the newest venue for the festival jam sessions is Sweden’s oldest hotel\, Hotel Continental du Sud. \nThe house band this year is the Aaron Mandelman Trio\, led by bassist and composer Aaron Mandelmann\, a Malmo-based musician\, who has toured widely in Scandinavia and Europe. Pianist for the Wednesday session is Ebba Dankel\, an award-winning pianist who is currently studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. For the second and third sessions\, Sven Erik Lundeqvist\, who led the festival’s jam session so succesfully for many years\, returns at the keyboard. Providing the pulse for all three sessions is drummer\, Pontus Häggblom.

DESCRIPTION:Aaron Mandelmann – bass\nEbba Dankel / Sven Erik Lundeqvist – piano\nPontus Häggblom – drums \nThe jam session is a popular late-night element of the jazz festival that has popped up in various locations around Ystad over the years. And this year is something special – the newest venue for the festival jam sessions is Sweden’s oldest hotel\, Hotel Continental du Sud. \nThe house band this year is the Aaron Mandelman Trio\, led by bassist and composer Aaron Mandelmann\, a Malmo-based musician\, who has toured widely in Scandinavia and Europe. Pianist for the Wednesday session is Ebba Dankel\, an award-winning pianist who is currently studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. For the second and third sessions\, Sven Erik Lundeqvist\, who led the festival’s jam session so succesfully for many years\, returns at the keyboard. Providing the pulse for all three sessions is drummer\, Pontus Häggblom.

Saxofon\nHåkan Skytte Bas\nMartin Westerström Drums\nHåkan Rådström Gitarr \nBlue Light Jazzband is one of Österlen’s oldest and most popular jazz ensembles. The program features timeless classics from the history of jazz\, all arranged in the band’s own style – swing\, Caribbean influences\, and perhaps the occasional lullaby. \nThe concert is organized in collaboration with Save the Children in Ystad. Donations will be collected on site for Save the Children’s emergency fund\, which supports children in places such as Ukraine\, Gaza\, and Yemen.
