With roots in Bollnäs Folk High School\, the band interprets music from Coltrane’s rich repertoire in new exciting arrangements. Drawing inspiration from the Nordic jazz tradition\, they play  songs from classic albums such as “Blue Train” (1958)\, “Giant Steps” (1960) and “Coltrane’s Sound” (1964). John Coltrane wrote the jazz ballad “Naima” – named after his then-wife\, Juanita Naima Grubbs – in 1959. The song\, included on the album “Giant Steps”\, has become a jazz standard.

DESCRIPTION:Biljett/Ticket \nWhen the Swedish pianist Mattias Nilsson meets the Danish double bassist Jimmi Roger Pedersen\, a musical encounter arises filled with sensitivity\, swing\, and Nordic tonal poetry. \nMattias Nilsson is an internationally active jazz pianist and composer who has performed more than two thousand concerts in over thirty countries. His music moves freely between jazz\, Nordic folk music\, and classical sounds\, and is characterized by a warm\, lyrical\, and personal expression. Nilsson has collaborated with a number of international jazz musicians and is known for his improvisations in which Nordic melancholy meets spontaneous creativity. \nJimmi Roger Pedersen is regarded as one of Denmark’s most virtuosic double bassists. He studied at Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium under the legendary bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen\, and throughout his career he has toured internationally for many years together with the pianist Horace Parlan\, as well as performed with jazz greats such as Lee Konitz and Benny Bailey. He has appeared on more than one hundred recordings and has also released several acclaimed solo albums. \nIn this exclusive duo\, piano and double bass meet in their most stripped-down form. There is nothing to hide behind—only two musicians in an intense dialogue where every note counts. The result is a concert filled with swing\, improvisation\, and Nordic atmosphere\, where the audience comes close to both the music and the moment. \nAn experience where tradition and spontaneity meet—and where jazz lives in the present.
