The Ystad Sweden Jazz Festival was started in 2010 and is entirely organized by a festival committee that works on the festival year-round, along with over 70 additional volunteers during the festival itself. Musik i Syd is a co-organizer. The festival is supported by the Swedish Arts Council, Region Skåne, and the municipality of Ystad.
Jan Lundgren, an internationally renowned pianist from Ystad, is the artistic director of the festival. You can learn more about Jan at www.janlundgren.com.
The festival takes place annually over four days, Wednesday to Saturday in week 31. In 2024, the festival celebrates its 15th year and will be extended by one day. The audience can enjoy over 30 concerts and events featuring international world-class artists and Swedish stars. The Next Jazz Generation program showcases the new generation of Swedish jazz musicians on the brink of an international career. For children, we organize JazzKidz concerts, and for the elderly, SeniorJazz concerts in nursing homes. These concerts are organized in collaboration with Unga Musik i Syd and the municipality of Ystad’s Cultural Department. Next Jazz Generation, JazzKidz, SeniorJazz, Yazzparad, and jam sessions are free events.
Together with Copenhagen Jazz in Denmark, Molde Jazz in Norway, and Pori Jazz in Finland, the Ystad Sweden Jazz Festival is one of the largest international Nordic jazz festivals. The festival also holds the quality label EFFE, selected among Europe’s foremost festivals.
