Ystad Sweden Jazz Festival was started in 2010 and is entirely organized on a volunteer basis by a festival committee that works on the festival year-round, along with more than 70 additional volunteers during the festival itself. Musik i Syd is a co-organizer. Region Skåne and Ystad Municipality support the festival. In addition, a number of local companies are partners of the festival. Without all these, the festival would not be possible!

Sweden’s internationally renowned pianist, Ystad native Jan Lundgren, has been the artistic director of the festival since its inception.

The festival is held annually over four days, from Wednesday to Saturday during week 31. The audience is treated to over 30 concerts and events featuring international world-class artists and Sweden’s jazz elite.

During the Next Jazz Generation concerts, we present the new generation of trained Swedish jazz musicians, on the brink of an international career.
JazzKidz concerts are organized both in Ystad and in the countryside around Ystad.
SeniorJazz is held at nursing homes throughout Ystad Municipality, providing opportunities for the elderly to continue enjoying jazz together with their relatives and caregivers in elderly care. These concerts are organized in collaboration with Unga Musik i Syd and Ystad Municipality’s Culture Department.
Admission is free to all Next Jazz Generation, JazzKidz, and SeniorJazz concerts.

The festival proudly holds the EFFE quality label, being selected among Europe’s foremost festivals.
