This jazz project led by Magnus Carlson, best known as the singer in the Weeping Willows, signals a comeback for a constellation known for its jazz covers of hidden gems from soul, pop and rock.
During a break from the Weeping Willows in 2009, Magnus Carlson got together with trumpeter Goran Kajfes and formed Magnus Carlson & The Moon Ray Quintet. The band recorded two highly varied cover albums “Magnus Carlson & The Moon Ray Quintet” (2009) and “Echoes” (2010).
After a hiatus of 15 years, Magnus Carlson & The Moon Ray Quintet returned for their third album “Shadows” (2025). And the selection of song sources is as diverse as ever, from Al Jolson and Sufjan Stevens to Scott Walker and David Bowie.
