Today, 3 August, is the start of the 13th international jazz festIval in Ystad.
The festival will present 38 concerts and events – 18 offer free admission.

Jennifer Saxell is the festival’s Jazz Artist 2022. Jennifer’s paintings will be exhibited at Saluhallen in Ystad during the festival. The preview is on 30 July, 12.00-16.00. You might also find the festival´s Artistic Director, Jan Lundgren, at the piano!
This year’s jazz painting, entitled “Jazzin´it up” will be auctioned during the festival via ystadjazz.se.

Jazz it up!
This is the name of this year’s original that the artist and artist Jennifer Saxell made and donated to the jazz festival. The original will be auctioned off 3 – 6 Aug via ystadjazz.se where you also submit your bid. The auction ends on 6 Aug at 20.00. The original is handed over just before the last concert starts at: 21:00 if the highest bidder is on site at Ystads Teater. Delivery otherwise in another way. The painting will also be this year’s art items.

Ystad Winter Piano Fest – Success!
For the first time, Ystad Jazz arranged a winter event – Ystad Winter Piano Fest on 27-28 December.
Ystad Theater has one of Europe’s most exclusive Steinway grand pianos. With fantastic support from Steinway & Sons and Juhl-Sørensen, we also got access to a nice Steinway grand piano at Ystad Saltsjöbad.
We were thus able to offer a real party with fantastic pianists. Premiere artists were Johanna Summer, Nik Bärtsch, Jan Lundgren, Mattias Svensson & String Quartet, Jacob Karlzon, Marialy Pacheco & Rhani Krija and Iiro Rantala.
To inspire the younger generation, we invited all of Ystad Kulturskola’s piano students to listen to a concert and a number of selected students participated in a workshop with Jan Lundgren.
Ystad Jazz is awarded the Ystad Municipality Culture Prize 2021!
The Culture Committee has drawn attention to the commitment of all volunteers, that Ystad Jazz is aimed at all ages, that the festival attracts artists, audiences and media from all possible parts of the world and that the festival contributes to building Ystad’s brand. YSTAD SWEDEN JAZZ AWARD ”NEXT GENERATION”
“Next Generation” is a brand new scholarship (2020) to be awarded to one or more jazz musicians, who are at the beginning of their professional careers. The scholarship, which is initiated by YSJF’s artistic director Jan Lundgren, cannot be applied for. A scholarship committee appoints recipients. The committee consists in the first year of four representatives from Ystad’s jazz festival and Musik i Syd. Read more!
