YSJF 2023 presents a legend of the Hammond organ – Rhoda Scott

We are pleased to announce that one of the greatest ever Hammond organists, Rhoda Scott, will be performing at YSJF 2023. Discovered by Count Basie, she has played with stars such as Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles and George Benson during a long and illustrious career.
Born in New Jersey, USA, she has been based in Paris for many years. Rhoda Scott is known as “The Barefoot Lady” due to her distinctive playing style. In Ystad, she will be performing with the Polish vibraphonist Izabella Effenberg and French drummer Julie Saury.

Marilyn Mazur brings phenomenal percussion experience to YSJF 2023

We are pleased to announce that the innovative Danish percussionist Marilyn Mazur will be bringing her eight-piece world-jazz orchestra Shamania, with a line-up of leading female Scandinavian musicians, to YSJF 2023.

The dynamic and hypnotic rhythms, played on an array of percussion instruments from around globe, can be heard on the albums “Shamania” (2019) and “Rerooting” (2022). Marilyn Mazur collaborated with Miles Davis in the 1980s and has had notable projects with Wayne Shorter, Gil Evans and Jan Garbarek.

Jan Garbarek Group feat. Trilok Gurtu at this year’s jazz festival!

We are extremely proud to present another one of this year’s concerts! Two hours with the Norwegian genius Jan Garbarek and his highly distinctive sound on soprano and tenor sax. The group consists of the Indian percussion magician Trilok Gurtu, the German jazz fusion pianist Rainer Brüninghaus, who has worked with Garbarek since 1988, and, on bass, the Brazilian Yuri Daniel, a member of the Jan Garbarek Group for over 10 years.
